NPD Nominations Opening Soon!

Nominations for National Philanthropy Day (NPD) 2018 will be accepted Monday, February 5th through Friday, April 13th.

NPD acknowledges the entire spectrum of services provided by the Charlotte nonprofit community and recognizes the profound impact that philanthropy has on the fabric of our society. Each year, AFP honors individuals, groups, organizations, and businesses who, through their hard work and dedication, have enhanced philanthropy, their communities, and the world. This year, the luncheon and awards reception will be held on Tuesday, November 27th at the Hilton Charlotte Center City.

Please consider honoring individuals and businesses who have positively impacted your organization and our Charlotte community by nominating them for an award.

Introducing AFP Charlotte's IDEA Task Force

AFP International continues to have a strong focus regarding issues related to diversity and inclusion, providing resources to support and enhance each chapter's diversity efforts. Last year, this committee name was changed to IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access), a broader term that covers all of the association's work in this area. 
 
AFP Charlotte is very excited to work in the area as well! For 2018, we plan to create an IDEA Task Force to begin discussing ways that we can implement diversity efforts throughout our Chapter. The group will meet 6-8 times throughout the year and focus on ways we can bring IDEA to the Charlotte Chapter, including programming, scholarships, outreach, etc.
 
We'd love to have a group of 8-12 individuals from our membership to serve on this task force. Ideally, this group would be made up of diverse individuals in terms of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. If you are interested, please reach out to Mike Blackwelder by January 31st. You'll receive a follow-up email with additional information about the group.

AFP Charlotte features many committees that are led by our board members and are opportunities for members to get more involved in the programming and operations of the chapter. You can find the list of committees on the website, and if you have interest in any of them, fill out the form you find there. The appropriate person will reach out to get you plugged in.

Tips for Giving After the Tax Bill

In the January 3rd eWire issue (Vol.18, Num.1), AFP International provided tips for giving after the new tax bill. It is suggested that there will be 30 million less itemizers this year, which accounts for approximately $100 million in philanthropic support.
