Mentors & Mentees

On June 13, AFP Charlotte's Mentoring Committee will proudly oversee the graduation of 20 mentees who participated in the 2012-2013 Mentoring Program.

According to a 2012 survey by The Chronicle of Philanthropy, 31% of early career professionals are actively seeking a job at another nonprofit group.  Often, this is a result of not having a mentor or other professional development opportunities that can provide guidance and support.

Through the AFP Mentoring Program (a free resource for AFP members), early career professionals are partnered with experienced development professionals to enhance and broaden the mentee's knowledge, skills set and success in the field of philanthropy.

Mentee Nick Stewart, Development Officer, Donor Relations at the Arts & Science Council says: "The AFP Mentoring Program was very beneficial for me; I had the opportunity to discuss new ideas, share successes, and receive relevant advice in areas where my skills are lacking.  Vanessa Garcia has been a knowledgeable and supportive professional mentor and, in the process, became a good friend."
