Letter from the President

[Image]July brings about the official start of summer, and, for many nonprofits, the beginning of a new fiscal year. This is a time when members prepare for new goals, assess how the last six months have gone, and look ahead toward the great work philanthropy will accomplish during the remainder of 2021. Our members have remained vigilant, resilient, and innovative the first half of 2021: pioneering zoom cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, mastering digital appeals and engagement, and creating virtual fundraising events. All of this was done in the wake of the continued unknown and a constantly changing environment.

AFP Charlotte members continue to lead the way in fundraising success, striving to meet our community's philanthropic needs. As you plan for this coming year ahead, I hope you'll take advantage of many of the tools and resources your AFP membership offers. Most importantly, I hope you'll continue to stay safe, connect with this amazing network of fundraising professionals at a monthly program, affinity group, or social, invest in your professional education, and continue changing the world every day!

IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access)

As fundraisers, we have a responsibility to interrogate perceptions of philanthropy and to rethink what philanthropy means for modern needs and equity.

This month, the IDEA committee is pleased to share resources to help with co-creating a more inclusive and equitable workplace.

Join the IDEA Committee!

Promoting Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) is a key pillar of AFP Global and AFP Charlotte's vision for the organization. If you, or someone you know, might be interested in joining the IDEA committee, please contact Holly Whitfield, VP IDEA and Strategic Initiatives, at hwhitfield@shepherdscharlotte.org.

We want to hear from different voices across our community. As such, IDEA committee members do not have to be members of AFP.

AFP Charlotte has built a reputation for getting the word out for the premier fundraising jobs across the Carolinas. Click here to read more and apply for a posted position.

In order to promote gender and racial pay equity, AFP is leading the way and will be requiring salary ranges for all new positions posted on the AFP Charlotte Job Board effective May 10, 2021. We understand this might be a significant change for some organizations, but AFP Charlotte strongly believes this is an important shift in increasing equity, inclusion and fairness in the fundraising profession.
