March Programs

As we continue to adapt to new and different ways to fundraise during these challenging times, we will be hosting two upcoming webinars that will address branding and building your online community, along with how to steward your donors throughout the year. Staying on brand and staying connected with donors during the pandemic has been a challenge for many in the non-profit sector. We hope you will join us in March and April as we address these issues. We will be hosting a short de-brief session after each of the upcoming webinars. Please join us!

Webinar:  Branding and Building Your Online Community
Register here.

Your organization's brand: it goes far beyond your logo and color scheme, and it is tied to everything you and your fellow employees say and do. Your online community: you know it takes time and effort to build an audience, but you may be missing out on golden opportunities to grow it and further engage.

Join us to learn simple tactics you can implement into your organization's everyday communication, leading to a stronger brand and tighter community. Improved communication can boost your integrity and visibility and ultimately lead to more donor dollars.

By participating in this webinar, you will learn about:

  • Establishing and strengthening your organization's voice
  • The importance of consistency in your communications
  • Easy ways to enhance your visibility on social media

Easy and Effective Ways to Stay Engaged with Your Donors All Year Long
Register here.

Join Mark Chilutti, CFRE, for a fun and engaging webinar that will leave you with lots of innovative and FUN ways to thank your donors for their support. After working hard to secure the gift, we need to let our donors know the impact it made in our organizations.

This session will focus on easy, yet effective ways to:
  • Stay in touch with donors through impact reports, cards, emails, and videos.
  • Engage program/clinical staff and board members in the stewardship process.
  • Be sure your donors feel good about their gift, so when the time comes to ask again, your work is much easier!

Looking for a meaningful stewardship opportunity for a donor or volunteer making a positive impact on your organization? Want to celebrate a fundraising colleague's dedication and success? A great way to honor the individuals and organizations whose generosity of spirit and giving heart make our community a better place is through a National Philanthropy Day (NPD) nomination!

Every year, AFP celebrates the diverse efforts of philanthropists, fundraisers, volunteers and organizations making the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community a better, more compassionate and equitable place for all. This year's luncheon will be held virtually on November 18th.

A great way to celebrate your donors and volunteers or honor your colleagues is by submitting an NPD nomination. Click here to access nomination forms, guidelines and more. Please submit your nominations by April 16th, 2021.

Need more guidance? Join the NPD Committee Chairs on Thursday, March 4th, at 12:00 p.m. for a "How to Write an NPD Nomination" workshop. Register here.

Contact Sydney Hammond for more information.

National Philanthropy Day celebrates the individuals and organization who are changing the world with a giving heart. At the heart of AFP Charlotte's National Philanthropy Day event is the desire to uplift the different forms 'giving back' can take and recognize the critical role philanthropy plays in creating a more equitable Charlotte-Mecklenburg community for all.

AFP Charlotte appreciates the community's help in nominating worthy honorees. Your voice is essential in telling our community's story and creating an event that truly reflects the entire
Charlotte-Mecklenburg community.

Members Only Affinity Groups

Are you looking to add something to your professional development repertoire?! To help our members deal with the unique challenges (and opportunities!) of their roles and their organizations, AFP Charlotte offers a number of affinity groups free to all members! Below is a list of affinity groups currently offered by AFP Charlotte. We currently have six active groups meeting virtually. For additional information, please contact Jane Freeman.
  • Annual Fund - Annual giving is one of the most important areas in an organization's fundraising efforts. Development professionals with a focus on annual giving are encouraged to join this group to share best practices, dos and don'ts, growth techniques and more!  All levels of experience are welcome.
  • Development Management - Managers face unique challenges in leading their fundraising teams to success. Development professionals who supervise at least one other fundraiser are encouraged to join this group to share their experiences and challenges in supervising a fundraising team.
  • Major Gifts - If you spend at least 50% of your time raising gifts of $5,000 or more, join fellow major gifts officers to discuss best practices, strategies and ideas around key topics.
  • New Fundraising Professionals - Are you early in your fundraising career or new to the profession altogether? Come network with the next generation of fundraisers to share challenges and ideas that will quickly make you a seasoned veteran. Meeting topics will range from best practices in fundraising to career development to current trends in philanthropy. This group is targeted to professionals with less than five years' experience in fundraising. Come join us!
  • Planned Giving - Planned giving is any major gift, made in lifetime or at death, as part of a donor's overall financial and/or estate planning. Join us as we discuss best practices and how to communicate knowledgeably about planned giving options.
  • Small Shop - Development professionals working on teams of two or fewer face unique challenges. This forum allows small shop fundraisers who share many of the tactical and strategic challenges you juggle to come together and share ideas and best practices. This group is designed for those working on development teams of one or two.

IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access)

As fundraisers, we have a responsibility to interrogate perceptions of philanthropy and to rethink what philanthropy means for modern needs and equity.

This month, the IDEA committee is pleased to share resources to help you celebrate the upcoming holidays inclusively at your workplace:

Promoting Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) is a key pillar of AFP Global and AFP Charlotte's vision for the organization. For more information, or to join the IDEA committee, please contact Holly Whitfield, VP IDEA and Strategic Initiatives, at
