Each year, AFP Global celebrates Ethics Awareness Month in October. This year's third annual Ethics Awareness Month highlights the importance of ethics in fundraising, which, while always important, has become especially critical as charities navigate a new philanthropic environment dominated by the pandemic.

Mentoring Applications

[Image]Do you have fundraising knowledge and coaching skills you'd like to share?  Are you just starting your career in development and need some guidance and support?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, consider joining the AFP Charlotte Mentoring Program. As a mentor, you'll be paying it forward by sharing your experience with someone who was once in your shoes. As a mentee, you'll receive the benefit of learning from someone who knows what you're experiencing. You'll have a coach and partner who can guide you to be a better fundraiser.

AFP Charlotte is now accepting applications for the mentor/mentee program. The deadline for applications is November 5. If you are interested, please visit the mentoring page on our website. Please contact Brittany Jenkins, VP of Membership, with any questions.

Members on the Move

[Image]This summer, Stacy Aldrich joined Make-A-Wish Central and Western, NC as the Chief Development Officer. Stacy previously was the Advisor of Individual Giving for the American Heart Association focusing on major gifts in the Southeast and Vice President of Development for the organization in Charlotte. She is thrilled to rejoin AFP and the amazing network of professional fundraisers.

Robert Koch returns to higher education after spending the past three years as Director of Development at WFAE, Charlotte's NPR news source. On October 25 he starts as Senior Director of Engagement and Giving at Queens University of Charlotte where he will be working with various boards across the university and managing a team of five focused on annual giving, communications, and events.

Join us in congratulating Stacy and Robert on their new roles! If you are a member on the move, please email Brittany Jenkins, VP of Membership, and share where you will be working, your new job title, and some highlights about your new role. We want to celebrate your success!

Spotlight on Affinity Groups

Are you looking to add something to your professional development repertoire? To help our members deal with the unique challenges (and opportunities!) of their roles and their organizations, AFP Charlotte offers the following affinity groups free to all members. For additional information, please contact Jane Freeman.

Annual Fund - Development professionals with a focus on annual giving are encouraged to join this group to share best practices, dos and don'ts, growth techniques and more! All levels of experience are welcome.     Development Management - Development professionals who supervise at least one other fundraiser are encouraged to join this group to share their experiences and challenges.
Major Gifts - If you spend at least 50% of your time raising gifts of $5,000 or more, join fellow major gifts officers to discuss best practices, strategies and ideas around key topics.   New Fundraising Professionals - Come network with the next generation of fundraisers to share challenges and ideas that will quickly make you a seasoned veteran. This group is targeted to professionals with less than five years' experience in fundraising.
Small Shop - This forum allows small shop fundraisers who share many of the tactical and strategic challenges you juggle to come together and share ideas and best practices. This group is designed for those working on development teams of one or two.   Planned Giving - Join us as we discuss best practices and how to communicate knowledgeably about planned giving options.

AFP Charlotte has built a reputation for getting the word out for the premier fundraising jobs across the Carolinas. Click here to read more and apply for a posted position.

In order to promote gender and racial pay equity, AFP is leading the way and will be requiring salary ranges for all new positions posted on the AFP Charlotte Job Board effective May 10, 2021. We understand this might be a significant change for some organizations, but AFP Charlotte strongly believes this is an important shift in increasing equity, inclusion and fairness in the fundraising profession.
