Fundraising Bootcamp
April 13, 2018
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Project 658
Current and past board members of AFP Charlotte will collaborate on a Fundraising Bootcamp. This is open to ShareCharlotte members.

Looking for a meaningful stewardship opportunity for a donor or volunteer doing great things for your organization? Want to celebrate a fundraising colleague's dedication and success? A great way to honor the individuals and organizations whose generosity of spirit and giving heart make our community a better place is through a National Philanthropy Day (NPD) nomination!

Every year, AFP celebrates the diverse efforts of philanthropists, fundraisers, volunteers and organizations making an impact in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community. This year's luncheon will be held on Giving Tuesday, November 27, at the Hilton Charlotte Center City.
Expand your network, celebrate your donors and honor your colleagues by submitting an NPD nomination. Click here to access nomination forms, guidelines and more. Please submit your nominations by April 13, 2018.
Contact Brittany Jenkins for more information.

Lunch Session: Donor Love: Forever and a Day

Love #DonorLove with Agents of Good
11:30 am - 1:00 pm | CPCC Harris Campus

Agent Jen Love is a storyteller. And not in a poetic sense. In a fumbling, arm-waving, half-sentence-speaking, let's-get-to-the-heart-and-the-feelings sense. Write drunk, edit sober...even if you're only drunk on emotions. Inhaling an attitude of gratitude and exhaling #donorlove, Jen's title is Partner at Agents of Good, a collective of donor champions. John Lepp is a partner at Agents of Good, a collective of passionate and game changing fundraisers who spend most of their day championing your donors and telling great stories. Register here.

This lunch is sponsored by LaGrange College.

Ethics: Where does the buck stop?
11:30 am - 1:00 pm | CPCC Harris Campus
Ethical fundraising is a core component of AFP, but development professionals can sometimes find themselves in sticky, tricky situations when it comes to raising funds. This session will focus on real life examples, how to handle them, and how to stay out of trouble.
Patton McDowell, President of PMA Consulting, LLC, will moderate this panel discussion and explore real life case studies that our panelists have encountered over their years in fundraising.  Panelists include: Diane Chipps Bailey, Lead Attorney for the Nonprofit Organizations and Foundations practice group at Robinson Bradshaw, Beth Crigler, Senior Director of Leadership and Principal Gifts for the Novant Health Foundation, Beth Fischer, Executive Director for University Development at UNC Charlotte, and Rex Otey, Senior Project Director with Convergent Nonprofit Solutions.
Attendees are encouraged to share their questions/cases/examples anonymously the morning of the event or through Register here.

What's the Big IDEA?

11:30 am - 1:00 pm | CPCC Harris Campus
Last year, the Association of Fundraising Professionals updated its Diversity and Inclusion efforts to IDEA Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access. Hear an overview of IDEA and how to incorporate the concept into fundraising efforts in diverse communities, plus bring more diversity to the Chapter and the profession. Our guest speaker, Birgit Smith Burton, the Executive Director of Foundation Relations at Georgia Tech, recently led her team in raising $309 million towards the Institute's most successful $1.8B capital campaign. Birgit is a member of the board of Hosea Helps, an advisor for the Aspen Leadership Group, and the founding chair of the African American Development Officers Network, which for 18 years has supported diversity in the fundraising profession by promoting professional development and facilitating interaction among its members. Register here.
