December Monthly Meeting and Holiday Social

When: 12/9/2015 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM
Where:
Levine Museum of the New South
On December 9, AFP Charlotte cordially invites you to its final program of the year coupled with the chapter's Holiday Social.  The monthly program begins at 4pm at the Levine Museum of the New South with a session featuring a panel discussing inclusion-focused fundraising.  Afterward beginning at 5pm, participants are invited to unwind as a part of the chapter's Holiday Social and explore the Museum's current exhibits.

The December session is entitled Raising Money in a Changing World. Organizations throughout the Charlotte region are staying relevant and growing by cultivating relationships and connecting with communities of color and historically marginalized groups--e.g., American Indians, Asian Americans, Latinos, African Americans, new immigrants and LGBTQ. In this session, donors, staff and volunteer fundraisers from a variety of identity-based nonprofits will weigh in on ways in which they approach the topic of philanthropy.

Bringing a fresh twist to the panel format will be moderator Valaida Fullwood, social innovator and award-winning author of Giving Back: A Tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists, which she developed with photographer Charles W. Thomas Jr.  In 2015, Valaida collaborated with museums, colleges and other cultural institutions to launch the multimedia exhibit Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy Reframed and Exhibited, which is currently on display at the Levine Museum of the New South. Participants will be able to enjoy the pop-up abridged edition of "The Soul of Philanthropy" as well as "¡NUEVOlution! Latinos and the New South" during the holiday social.

Panelists include:

§  Charles Thomas, New Generation of African American Philanthropists
§  Christina Theodorou, UNC American Indian Center
§  Diane Evia-Lanevi, Tomorrow Fund for Hispanic Students
§  Diep Tran, Charlotte Circle of Friends
§  Steve Bentley, Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund

We hope you will join AFP Charlotte as we bring a successful year of programming to a close!
